Let me be honest. It was a sad day at the SOA office when we heard about Esben Valløe leaving Reptile Youth to try out new adventures. It was a great day when we heard about his new project Antonio Gram.
This Friday he will play at the legendary Double Rainbow and that gig will be his premiere gig under his new moniker. You may ask yourself “Wait what. What is Antonio Gram all about?” and hey, I’m glad you’re asking.
“Wait what. What is Antonio Gram all about?” – I’m glad you’re asking
Antonio Gram is Esben Valløe’s new alias inspired by the Italian philosopher and author Antonio Gramsci who was imprisoned by the fascists but kept on writing his critical material imprisonment. In short, a man who would not let external boundaries limit his ideological and creative work.
“But what does Antonio Gram sound like?” – Let me explain
You know those recipes where you are guided throughout the whole process of creating some kind of weird budget cat-in-tuna dish. Neither do I. But still I love the framework of those imaginary recipes. If you take out a pot and throw in some “German techno and Middle Eastern sounds” (At least according to VICE), the let it boil for a minute you will end up with “understated pop perfection” according to JaJaJa. Let the music speak for itself below.
