It is Sunday again, and even a sunny version of it. This means that it is time to wrap up on the week that has reached its end. I have both good and bad news. The good news is that we have found many exciting things to feature in this week’s wrap up; the bad news is that I simply cannot feature it all. Therefore, I have decided to feature what I can, but only embed the best of the best.
You can check out the previous Weekly Wrap Up articles here.

New Singles & SingleOfTheWeek:
The last seven days have brought a massive amount of brilliant new singles. I have decided to feature six brilliant new pieces on this week’s wrap up.
First of all, our young Aarhus-based producer and artist Vakle, hailing from my own hometown Haderslev unveiled her new single ‘BOY’ this week. Musically, it is a sensual electro-pop track drawing on the influence of many legendary female artists. Her new single is the second release from the local artists, following up on her debut single ‘6100’.
Moreover, legendary Danish outfit Mew dropped new single ‘Count To Ten’ this week, which premiered exclusively via Stereogum. The band’s new single, which fans of their older material will for sure love, will be featured on the tracklist of the forthcoming Transfomers-related compilation album, called Transfomers Roll Out. It will be out April 15.
Also lo-fi pop outfit JUJU ME released their new single ‘Is Nobody Else’ from their forthcoming EP, this week. The band is a collab between Stine Steendorp Petersen (My Heart In Copenhagen) and composer Sven Dam Meinild (Asteroids Galaxy Tour). Moreover, they are joined by Peter Albrechtsen (The Kikos), Buster Jensen (Onkel Ond), Asger Nordtorp (Tårn), and Anders Haaning (Among Relatives).
Now we have reached that point, where you seriously need some dance-able vibes. Of course, this week has also brought a summer-dance-friendly release. One of our favourite good-looking duos Xolo Island just unveiled their new track ‘Takin’ Over’. This track is literally the definition of a summer-bash at the beach with a couple of friends and way too many beers. You cannot be unhappy after three minutes and nineteen seconds together with these two guys.
Back to earth again. We need some ambient vibes and some chaos to slap us in the face to remind us that it is actually Monday tomorrow. Meet the new band KYO, the moniker of H. Norrvide and Frederik Valentin. A couple of days ago, they unveiled a new track from their debut ‘Potentiel Musik’ out now on CS, Posh Isolation.
Finally, this week also brought a debut single release. New rock-solo-project-band Outer Region, the solo project of Niels Thorhauge, released his debut single ‘Mr. Boss’ this week just before hitting the stage at Way Up North festival in Aalborg. Musically it draws on influences from the 90s and the start of the 00s. It is hard-hitting, tastes like Jack Daniels Old no. 7, and smells like not-giving-a-fuck in the best possible Marlboro-like way. Therefore, this new single deserves to be Single Of The Week.
Furthermore, we would like to feature Liss’ newest single ’Sorry’, but you can see that single below.
Experience Simon Kvamm Solo Again In Aarhus On His Forthcoming Solo-Tour
A couple of months ago, on January 28, some lucky bastards were able to experience Simon Kvamm and his new solo project when he visited Radar in town – the concert sold out quickly. BUT! Now he has just announced another national tour, which will bring him and his solo project to venues all over the country. On October 13 he will visit Aarhus to perform at Musikhuset Aarhus.
KarriereKanonen Unveil The Last Band
Last Monday the national music competition could finally reveal which band had received the most votes online. Last week, the jury announced the first 11 bands, which you can see and hear here, and after voting the final act to take part in the competition is Perfect Plush.
New Albums & AlbumOfTheWeek:
This week has brought a couple of exciting new pieces. First of all, Danish Mads Langer just released his new album ‘Reckless Twin’, which draws on both other musical genres than he usually performs, but also draws on his musical past. Together with the help of Sune Wagner he has created a must hear piece, where a track like ‘Blondie’ is indeed a must-hear working with musical elements you did not expect from Mads. In short a brilliant new album. Remember, that you can experience Mads Langer when he visits Musikhuset Aarhus in April – tickets can be found here. Check out his new album here.
Furthermore, we have some electronic vibes for you. This week brought a debut EP called ‘Small Disasters’ from TOM and His Computer, the new alias of Copenhagen-based producer Thomas Bertelsen. He has been playing around with both Anders Trentemøller in Trigbag, and with Buda in Lulu Rouge, and is indeed a must hear. It will be out via Anders Trentemøller’s In My Room and is perfect for the late hours. Check out the new EP here.
Maybe you already saw it, but this week we also had the honour of exclusively premiering local outfit SANT’s debut EP ‘Ting & Sager’. We are talking four tracks and an original and atmospheric soundscape. Check out their new EP here.
Finally, one of our favourite bands Mother Lewinsky just dropped their new nine-track album ’Oratorio Volgare’. If you liked their ‘Mirrors on the Ground’ single, which we exclusively premiered in December, then you will love the album. As usual, their music is hard to place in a specific genre box, so you will need to hear it for yourself. No matter what, this record deserves to be named AlbumOfTheWeek. Check out ‘Skeleton Like Me’ from their new album below, and check out the entire piece via Soundcloud here.
Before I go into detail with the festival news from week 11, I will admit one thing; this week was a messy example of how not to do PR as a festival. This was basically one of the worst weeks to figure out what were added to the SPOT16 line-up, but I will try to cover it all. Dear Spot, last week was NOT a blogger-friendly communication strategy.
First of all, Grøn Koncert unveiled D-A-D as the first name on their line-up.
Then in regard to Spot Festival, Urban Music Network added five names to the SPOT16 line-up: Kejser A (DK), Sushi x Kobe (NO), Gatwick (DE), Jærv (DK), and Tom Klose (DE). Then Danish Vibes added three acts: Anna Scharling (DK), The KituMangoes (DK), and Mames Babegenush (DK). Then Danske Uafhængige Pladeselskaber (DUP) added ten bands to the SPOT16 line-up: CABAL (DK), Danni Toma (DK), Jomi Massage (DK), LEW (DK), ML BUCH (DK), PowerSolo (DK), Redwood Hill (DK), Saida (DK), TickTock (DK), Vessel (DK). Then the festival itself announced Ary (NO) in the middle of it all, and finally, TAPE and SPOT dropped TAPE’s Friday program featuring We Like We, Frisk Frugt, SVIN, Speaker Bite Me, Distortion Girls, Mogan Square, and GENTS. Read more about the TAPE line-up here. Finally, S!vas (DK), Lorentz (SE), and Unge Ferrari (NO) are added to the SPOT16 line-up.
We also got the entire line-up from local kickass festival Pop Revo, when they surprised us all with unveiled their The Grand Final line-up 2016 the other day. The line-up is just as exciting as usual and includes artists from all over the world – some you know, others you need to know. Read and see the full line-up here.
Liss: The Aarhus Band About To Blow Up The Internet
This band is the definition of a blooming act. Pharrell Williams loves them, and they just unveiled a new single ‘Sorry’, released this week, which is the hottest record in the world according to Annie Mac from BBC Radio 1 – and the band is from Aarhus. This week we wrote a small piece about them, their new release, video, and forthcoming tour. Read more about it here.
Aarhus-Based Singer-Songwriter Rasmus Matthiesen Shares Live Session
How does a live-session in Museumsgade in Aarhus look – imagine no more, and basically just press play below to find out how it looks. With their brilliant mix of the Danish language, jazzy elements, and good-looking haircuts, the blooming artist and his magnificent musicians made their own version of Sofar sounds.
New Videos & VideoOfTheWeek:
This week, I have decided to feature six new video releases. To be honest, I do not want to write that much about them, because videos are to be watched instead – they have their own stories to tell, so I will not ruin it by writing my versions of their stories. You can see them all via Youtube by pressing the song titles.
As already mentioned above, Liss released their new single ‘Sorry’ with a video this week. Furthermore, legendary artist Jacob Bellens released a visually brilliant new video for ‘Untouchable’, while Vejle-rapper Jamaika unveiled his new video for raw pop-rap track ‘Blodskudt’, and Vida Sophia dropped a new black-and-white beauty of a video to new single ‘Contour’. Moreover, the blooming artist Devon Seven released a must-see video to ‘Infinite Sadness’, which is definitely a must-see. This girl can conquer the world!
Finally, the VideoOfTheWeek comes from Aarhus rock outfit The White Dominos. This week they released their new video for ‘Only Light’, basically showing a story of the band members themselves but much younger versions. We are talking brilliant story in combination with a lovely visual expression.
