It is time for a weekly wrap up again. You know what that means: bringing some new songs, albums, and videos into the limelight and highlight the news from some of our brilliant festivals. Unfortunately, this week has some bad news in regard to a local festival, but more on that later.
New Single & Album Release:
Here is a little story before the releases. A couple of weeks after we founded the SoundOfAarhus online resource Asbjørn and I went to see a concert at Stakladen in town. Unfortunately not many others decided to go experience that concert.
Three bands were set to perform, and none of them disappointed us – the headline of the night, three kick-ass girls performing under the name of Baby In Vain, made us feel, that something like SoA was needed in town. This week, the Copenhagen-based trio unveiled that they have chosen to sign with the American label Partison Records. Furthermore, they premiered their new single ‘Marta’s View’ via Stereogum on Tuesday (March 8) and announced their forthcoming EP ‘For the Kids’. It will release on April 29.
This week, we also exclusively premiered the new single and video ‘Need Comfort’ from Copenhagen-based three-piece John Alcabean; still the most read piece on SOA the last week. See their new video here.
Also, the upcoming local solo artist Mikas has dropped his new single ‘Væk Mig Nu’ – a single produced by the legendary producer team Carsten Heller and Peter Kjædegaard in Aarhus.
Moreover, one the Danish big-shots in music, Mads Langer, unveiled his newest single ’Tunnel Vision’ this weekend. The track is the second single from his forthcoming album ’Reckless Twin’ scheduled for release on March 18. According to Mads himself, the new single was written on the same day as the horrible terror attacks last autumn in Paris. Indeed, a track you should check out.
In regard to album releases, two new debut EPs are especially worth to check out. First of all, the budding pop-queen Kill J dropped her new ‘Quasi’ EP. It is pop in its purest form, but quality material. Check it out on Spotify. Finally, JÆRV dropped her debut EP ‘Dit Hav’; six electronic pop tracks with Danish lyrics. Check it out via Spotify.
Three Bands Found For RAW Music #1
After listening through a big pile of applications we have finally found three bands for the first version of RAW music at Sway – Goodbye Lisichka, Who Is Louis, and John Alcabean. RAW Music is a collab between SoundOfAarhus and Promus and presented together with Aarhus Stiftstidende, SPOT Festival, and SWAY. Unfortunately due to problems with logistics, we have been forced to postpone the event from March 17 to May 26 – find the event here.
KarriereKanonen Reveal 11 Acts and 3 Wildcards:
This week, KarriereKanonen unveiled the first 11 acts and the three wildcards to the 2016 version – you can hear and read about them all here. The three wildcards have been chosen, and only one of them will take part in KarriereKanonen, and you can take part in the decision making by entering the KarriereKanonen website via this link, and vote for one of them. The winner of the three acts will be chosen on Monday, March 14.
Gimle Sound-Tjek Festival Mixtape:
We love Gimle’s Sound-Tjek festival. This year, the festival will take place from April 21 to April 23. Before the actual festival, the good folks behind it have created a mixtape, which you can find on Spotify here to check out some of the bands already announced for this year’s festival.
This week included both good and bad festival news. First of all, the Fyn festival Heartland Festival unveiled three additional acts – The Flaming Lips, Susanne Sundfør, and Låpsley.
Furthermore, our local SPOT Festival and TAPE shared the final Thursday Line-Up, which you will be able to experience during SPOT at the new TAPE venue. The four acts were: Clarissa Connely, Collider, Modest, and TEARS. Read more about it here.
Finally, the local Pop Revo Festival has announced that this year’s version of the festival in May will be the last version of the festival. Check out the festival here.
New Video Releases:
This week brought five new videos that are especially worth checking out. First of all, CODY released a video for ‘Rise Over Reason’. Also, as mentioned above, the local upcoming Mikas released his new ‘Væk Mig Nu’ video. Additionally, Liima, the Nordic quartet consisting of Finish Tatu Rönkkö and the members of Danish Efterklang dropped their new ‘Roger Waters’ video. As mentioned above, the Copenhagen-based indie band John Alcabean also revealed their new ‘Need Comfort‘ video. Finally, the budding duo Phlake unveiled one of the best Danish videos that we have seen for a long time. Check out their new ‘Pregnant’ video below.
