It is Sunday again. Another week has reached its end. Therefore, we have created a new weekly wrap up, so you can catch up on the news from the previous week. The idea with this series of articles is not to go in depth with everything, but to give you a quick overview of some of the news from week 7, that we find relevant both in regard to the Aarhus music scene, and the Danish music scene in general.
As always, we have decided to focus mainly on new releases – both in regard to singles, albums and videos. Furthermore, week 7 brought news from both SPOT and Northside festival in town, which will also be featured below. If you feel that something misses on this week’s weekly wrap-up, feel free to either leave a comment below or send us a heads ups.
New Releases from Coco Moon, Artificial Brothers, Kenton Slash Demon, Deltaburst, Choir of Young Believers
This week has brought some brilliant new releases. First, the Copenhagen-based band COCO MOON released their second single ‘Head Under Water’ from their 2015 album ‘Marble Mouth’, which we premiered via our site this Friday. If you are a fan of Nina Persson and The Cardigans’ sound, you will for sure fall in love with Coco Moon’s newest single. Check it out via SoundOfAarhus here.
The second release we have decided to feature comes from Artificial Brothers. A couple of days ago they released ‘Reindeers’ – an up-beat guitar driven track with bathroom-like vocals and synths suitable for a trip to space. Check out the new single below.
Also, the electronic masterminds Kenton Slash Demon have unveiled the new single ‘DOK’ from their forthcoming EP ‘TT/DOK’ which will be released on March 11 via Future Classic. I hope you managed to experience them live when they performed at Stakladen this week together with partly local The Gang OK because shit is about to go down for Kenton Slash Demon.
Moreover, the local electro-rock act Deltaburst released their self-titled five-track debut EP this week. Musically they span from hard-hitting electro tracks for fans of Spleen United to more guitar-driven rock tracks for fans of The White Dominos. The EP is available on all major streaming platforms. Check out their Spleen United-inspired track ‘We Are The Beat ft. JS’ below.
Finally, Choir of Young Believers released the new album ‘Grasque’. On this new release, the synthesizers and electronic vibes have been given a more prominent place in the soundscape. Furthermore, the album features both English and Danish tracks spanning on average from five-nine minutes. You can check out ‘Grasque’ on all major streaming platforms. Remember that Choir of Young Believers will visit Voxhall in town on May 11 – event here. Check out the track ‘Gamma Moth’ from the new album ‘Grasque’ below.
Northside & SPOT added bands to their line-ups
A couple of days ago both SPOT and Northside decided to unveil more bands to their line-ups on the same day. I will make this one short, so if you want to read more about the bands, check out the SOA article here. SPOT Festival added the Danish acts Northern Assembly, CHINAH, Kentaur, Palace Winter and Guns. Furthermore, they revealed that Tårn and Moses:”Andreas” have decided to team up for joint concert concept. Northside Festival added five acts, namely German Digitalism, Australian Flume, British Jake Bugg, and Danish acts Den Sorte Skole and AV AV AV.
SoundOfAarhus nominated as Startup Media of The Year
This one really came as a surprise to us at the small SOA office. A couple of days ago we received a mail with the news about a nomination as Startup Media of the Year. We cannot thank all you lovely readers enough – solely because of you. As far as we know, the national finalists are published on March 10, so we will cross our fingers and hope for a final spot among the nominees.
Døde Blomster, the merging between Aarhus’ Narcosatanicos, and Aalborg’s Get Your Gun
This week was also the week where SoundOfAarhus introduced a new band on our page. It is no secret that we love Get Your Gun and Narcosatanicos, so news about a merging project between these to bands is really something we would love to hear more about. Therefore, Bobby had a chat with the bands about their project and the formation of it during the terrible terror attack in Copenhagen last year – you can read the introduction and interview here. Remember to go see them perform live at TAPE on March 4 – event here.
Video releases from LISERSTILLE, Wangel and First Hate
Three new videos have been released this week, which we especially think should be featured in this week’s weekly wrap up. You can check them all out below. First up is the new video from LISERSTILLE. Last year the band performed in the middle of the night at Radar in town, and that concert has now resulted in a live album and a concert video. Secondly, Wangel has released a new video for his single ‘You Got To Say It Out Loud’ before the release of his debut album ‘Freedom’ on March 4. Finally, the synth-pop duo First Hate has also released a new video. They recently released their new video for their new single ‘White Hero’. Remember that First Hate will release their debut EP ‘The Mind of Gemini’ on March 4, the day before they will perform at TAPE in Aarhus – event here.
