Seems like everyone in the world has cast an eye towards the Copenhagen underground noise/punk scene (well anyone who reads pitchfork or Vice at least…) and while a lot of good is coming from everyone finally coming around to the idea that Denmark can actually do some good in the world besides making colored blocks, expensive stereos and euthanizing baby giraffes, it’s also given way to a heck of a lot of new possibilities for bands that would otherwise remain under the radar. Today we’re watching out for Total Heels: a CPH/Brooklyn hybrid ready to tear your legs off and put the ‘rage’ back in garage.
Their press kit seems a little manic and chest beat-y, but that only means they wrote it themselves most likely on the way to one of there numerous gigs all over Europe lately. I’ll give you the condensed version though: three Danish dudes including an ex-lack and ex-Fashion drummer meets US-singer while touring with other bands, friendship/rivalry turns into a barnstormin’ rip roarin’ good time collaboration.
Seems like several noteable artists (Ty Segall, Mudhoney) have taken notice and they have been putting out self released 7”’s and gearing up for a full album very soon.
Their sound just has party written all over it really – manic preacher/get the room goin’ frontman, fuzz organ, crunchy Telecaster and tight ass drums and a penchant (after cruising their youtube live clips) for going crazy and runnin’ around on stage is gonna equal a good time. While its hard to put an exact label on what they are up to – it’s definitely of a retro garage punk cum soulful preacher type vibe. Worth keeping an eye out if you’re sick of everyone saying they are in a shoegaze band or inviting you to art installations where someone vomits in the corner and then builds a birdhouse – ironically. It looks like a party.
Total Heels are headlining a night in the local clubhouse: Trøjborg Beboerhus on the 28th of this month (w/ Fright Eye and Snare Drum) so you better check that out – it’s a tiny smelly little joint, so it’s gonna be perfect for Total Heels. Press here for event info!
They are also “Secretly” playing an “unofficial” Spot show on 2/5 as well.
Watchout for Total Heels.
