It’s time to stop kidding ourselves. The harsh Danish winter is coming, and along come darkness, depression and desperation (or at least so I’ve been told). But worry not: SOA offers an insider’s tip for some electronic warmth to carry you through the gloomy days ahead. We recommend Australia’s hottest hype, Sydney based Panama. They have just released their sophomore EP “Always” on Future Classic.
Already the title track “Always” (produced by and recorded with Eric Broucek who has, amongst others, worked with !!! and Hercules & Love Affair) will get you hooked. The clear trademark sound of Jarrah McCleary’s piano, accentuated by delicate and heartfelt electronica will do a better job on warming than ten cups of Gløgg ever could.
But it’s as every regular sauna guest will tell you: sometimes less is more. Which is why it really is the EP’s second track that feels like the real masterpiece on this record. Stripped down and self-recorded, “How We Feel” just sounds less overproduced than the EP’s other two tracks. Prepare for this song to be stuck in your head for days – and for enjoying every second of it.
After several run-throughs (or let’s say eight hours of continuously looping the EP), I am pretty sure that there are great things to be expected from Panama. It is hard not to be excited about this amazing EP, and you should definitely get it to brighten your outlook on the next few months.
