The Blue Angel Lounge have overcome their beginnings in a small German town to perform at some of the crème de la crème of international festivals such as Roskilde Festival (this year) and twice at the king of all ‘psych fests’- Austin Psych Fest (in Texas of course). The Psych fest concept is landing properly in Scandinavia for the first time this Autumn when a dozen or so underground psychedelic, garage, punk, noise and shoegaze bands descend on our city to blow your minds with what will undoubtedly be one of the indoor festival lineups of the year that you can NOT miss. Here is our first in a series of interviews where SOA is grilling the Aarhus Psych Fest groups about their lives, and the their pending shows at APF ’13.
[chat question=”SOA: Who is The Blue Angel Lounge and can we expect from your show at APF? “]Theo (synth): We’re a band from a provincial town in Germany. The band was formed in 2006 by Nils and Mel, who used to record music in Nils bedroom just for the fun of it. Since then we turned into a real band, released 2 albums and toured a lot. We’re busy working on our 3rd record for what feels like an eternity now.
Nils (vocals): What to expect? Mistakes while playing, un-tuned guitars, terrible sounding drums, combined with the deepest spirit and most honest touch I know.[/chat]
[chat question=”SOA: What has been your favorite “psychedelic” experience? “]Mel (guitar): I saw a guy last week on the street wearing a bomber jacket while it was 40 degrees above zero – outside. I thought I was trippin’ on something but it could have been a mirage too. Kazaam![/chat]
[chat question=”SOA: Aarhus is known as “smilets byen” (the city of smiles), what do you have to say about that?“]Mel: I`ve read that Denmark is in the 27th position of suicide rates by country. So I am really glad they at least smile in Aarhus.[/chat]
[chat question=”SOA: Apart for yourselves, which other performance(s) are you looking forward to seeing at Aps. “]
Mel & Nils: The Asteroid #4.
Theo: We met them 2 years ago on our first tour to the US and played a couple of shows together. I think they took us for a bunch of stupid kids first … and then.. well, I don’t know if they changed their mind, but at least we had a great time together. Good guys![/chat]
[chat question=”SOA: So what have you got planned for your listeners for the rest of the year? “]
Mel: Another year – another fear. We’re trying to release a new record. We will see how it goes.
Nils: Finishing the record and maybe release it before my hair is getting grey?
