Personally I remember buying a ticket for the train last summer without knowing where it was going. I Especially remember the ride from Prague over Germany to Paris with the sound from German-Swiss duo BOY in my ears. Their sound made the ride even more beautiful letting the landscape walk hand in hand with their fantastic sound.
Maybe this is actually their strength – to completely remove any concerns about you life outside the walls of the venue. Whether they play completely raw without anything besides acoustic instruments or bring a band with them doesn’t matter. Their sound still creates this relaxing bubble to take a seat in.
The duo formed back in 2007 by swiss singer Valeska and german bassist Sonja, who met while at a pop-music course at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg in 2005. The duo initially played concerts exclusively, before being discovered and signed by Herbert Grönemeyer’s label Grönland Records in 2011.
Their debut album Mutual Friends, which is already Gold-certified in Germany was produced and released in the autumn the same year as they signed with Grönland Records. They sing entirely in English in a style reminiscent with the style of Leslie Feist!
In June 2012 the debut album released in UK and in February this year they released in The North American area.BOY actually won the Hamburg Musician Price “HANS” in 2011 in the category Hamburg Newcomer of the Year, and Mutual Friends won the 2012 European Border Breakers Award (EBBA!) The duo’s song “Little Numbers” featured acoustically above the article was also featured in the Lufthansa Airline’s business Class advertisement in mid 2012!
On March 1, 2013 the duo launched their first-ever USA tour, which started at the sold-out Joe’s Pub in New York City. With Sold-out shows last month in New York City this is really the best booking of the week in Aarhus. For only 150 DKK (130 DKK for members) you can also experience them tomorrow at Studenterhus Aarhus!
