Talib Kweli Brings Worldclass American Hip-Hop To Train With Local Erik and HansSOLO Tomorrow
Being the son of two University professors knowledge has always been a focal point in the life of Brooklyn -bred Talib Kweli – his name means “the seeker or the student” – and since he met several of the members of the rap collective Native Tounges (De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Jungle Brothers) in High School, so has hip hop. In ’94 he met the producer Hi-Tak who inspired him to explore himself as a rapper and even let him feature on five tracks on his group Mood’s album “Doom”.
Shortly after that he met Mos Def and formed the group Black Star, who released their now legendary album ”Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star” in ’98. Two years later Talib and Hi-Tek released their collaborative album “Train Of Thought” under the name Reflection Eternal to praise from both reviewers and audience. It wasn’t until his second album “Quality” though that Talib Kweli finally got his mainstream breakthrough with the Kanye West-produced single “Get By”.
Since then he has released seven albums, formed the group Idle Warship with the singer Res and most recently released to compilation “Indie 500” with the producer 9th Wonder. He has earned both praise and respect for his lyrical skills, as Jay-Z said ”If skills sold, truth be told, I’d probably be, lyrically Talib Kweli”.
Now with the release of the “Indie 500” compilation Talib Kweli is on tour and is hitting Aarhus and Train this Wednesday the 25th of November.
Supporting Talib Kweli is the local rapper erik x HansSOLO with a ten man band. erik is formerly known as Julaw and has been featured on the monthly Catch Up. He is working on an EP with the producer and DJ HansSOLO (Pro Era) that’s a modern take on classic boom bap hip hop with positive and conscious lyrics.
With house-DJ’s Freddy and Bror and an afterparty at Fidel’s with Blacc El, Eye N’ Eye it looks to be a nice evening of hip hop in Aarhus.
