Aarhus has been truly blessed with a butt-load of great shows in the last weeks, reason to celebrate for sure. I personally have felt like I’ve been inside our fantastic venues more than my own living room this month – which is not really too much of an exaggeration! This Wednesday we have another potentially great gig set up in Atlas – the very awesome Dungen – all the way from next door in Sweden.
It’s not very often you hear of Scandinavian language bands doing much outside of…well…Scandinavia but Dungen has been steadily gathering a following over the last 15 years or so – international festivals, major label releases and late night American talk shows have all been “Sweded” by the swirling musical adventures of Dungen – a live act masterminded by Gustav Ejstes – in my opinion – one of the most brilliant musical minds to ever come out of Sweden – and you know there are a lot of those.
Dungen’s music swings over the course of their impressive album discography from psychedelic, prog, jangle, acid jazz and stoner genres. They certainly are not easily pigeon-holed – but they could possibly be looked upon as being ‘proto’ for the current neo-psych revival of bands like Pond, Tame Impala, Ty Segall and Mikael Cronin – all bands with weird and talented front men with a foot in the past and a vision for the future.
Hey – we know it’s a Wednesday, but this is a show you are gonna regret if you miss. Give their new (fantastic) record a spin: Allas Sak, and bone up on your Swedish (or not). Tickets are still available from Voxhall – here’s the skinny;

Here’s my personal favorite Dungen number “Panda”. Some bad ass drums here.
