The man with the voice is Jacob Bellens. He possesses probably one of the most instantly recognizable voices in Danish music. Bellens has been at it for quite awhile now – best known for his former bands – Murder and I Got You On Tape, Jacob Bellens spirited and delicate baritone has been one of the few joys that we can endure on the Danish FM airwaves. There’s just something about the way he sings his often dark and plaintive ballads that is very endearing, like an old friend.
Last year Jacob released his second fantastic solo album: “The Daisy Age”. It’s open hearted and tender-footed orchestration with chamber orchestra and folk instruments was a high point for me in a world of otherwise pointless and pompous pop and indie shite. Basically folks: he’s the closest thing we have to Tom Waits or Scott Walker in the kingdom of Danes. He truly is a great Dane and you must see him perform this weekend if you have a Spot armband.
Jacob Bellens performs Saturday at 16:00 in Musikhuset’s ‘Stor Sal’. Absolutely perfect setting to see this man. Be there.
