The festival season has begun, and after a very successful SPOT Festival we start focussing on this weeks events.
After one of the biggest Aarhus music events has ended, it is now time for some of the smaller but still awesome Aarhus events to shine. And this week has a lot to offer!
The first thing we’ll recommend checking out is the wonderful festival POP REVO! This week they’ll be celebrating their 10th anniversary, and they’ll be doing it with style. This festival usually books both stars and upcoming talents from all over the world – and this year they’ve added some of the bands who made it possible for this festival to survive for 10 years.
As an example they’ve booked The Clientelle (UK). This band is named the reason why this festival was made to begin with, as it was a band that the founders just wanted to book so bad.
Since then the band had a great career, but split up after the latest release in 2010 – but you can see them perform live, for the last time, at this years POP REVO Festival.
Another band that has been very important to this festival is Danish The Rumour Said Fire. POP REVO had financial problems in 2010 after a terrible 2009, but with the The Rumour Said Fire’s growing popularity a lot of people turned up at that years Festival, and the band saved the festival – and you can hear them again this year!
Another Festival this week is Melodica Festival. This Festival is part of a bigger organization that celebrates local music scenes all over the world, and this week Melodica Aarhus will take place. It’s actually a international songwriter festival, and every year in May they introduce both Danish and foreign songwriters at local venues here in Aarhus. One of the goals behind this festival is to create to a network between Danish and foreign songwriters, the music business and music loving audience here in Aarhus.
Friday the venue Radar will be hosting another Radar (High) event. Yet again they are celebrating the young and local talents! This Friday there will be performances from 7 bands/artists – and you can enjoy them for only 10. Kr!
Last but definitely not least, this Saturday the yearly event Mejlgade for Mangfoldighed (Mejlgade for Diversity) will take place. It seems like the music program gets better and better for every year, and this year you can listen to Ice Cream Cathedral, Point Blank, Bon Homme, Schultz and Forever, Sekouia and many, many more – FOR FREE!!
So even though SPOT Festival has ended, Aarhus still has a lot to offer! Still, it’s difficult to decide where to go. Have you decided yet?
