What a show we have for us tonight, a windy Tuesday at VoxHall. I’m twice as excited as normal for this show in particular, as Russian Circles have invited one of my current favorite American groups, Cloakroom on tour with them – so in fact, it’s a double concert.
Russian Circles are a Chicago-based Post/Doom band. Sticking any of their 6 albums over the last 10 years since their inception will leave your mind and body with a complete natural high. If you’re not familiar with the trio – they play something between extreme heavy doom, post-rock (think; Mogwai meets Mastodon) with touches of ambiance and math-core. Last year’s “Guidance” LP is a masterpiece of epic proportions, blurring the lines between Metal and Post-rock genres into something really beyond comprehension. I know it’s a windy Tuesday – but it’s not to be missed.
Cloakroom put out my personal favorite record of last year, “Further Out”, which continues and expands on their concept of “stoner emo” (their words…) which draws on references from late-90s indie and slow-core (Hum, Pedro The Lion, Red House Painters) with occasional heavy tendencies and a few pop hooks even (Think; Weezer’s “Pinkerton” on half-speed). The Indiana-based group have been getting better and better with each step – so heed my words when I say, don’t miss the damn support tonight.
We’ll be there to tell ya all about.
Doors open at 19:00, and tickets are available at 180 DKK.
