Even though I am not going to Roskilde this year due to health and cash considerations I thought I should let people know what I think they should catch in the hip-hop genre. The program is very weak this year, but there are still some highlights:
Sigma – Sunday the 29th of June 22:30 @ Street City
Sigma is one of the most hyped new danish rap groups in the last couple of years due their free download release ”Frisk Valuta”. The group consists of the rappers Semphiz and Novum and the producers Telepa-T and Bob Dyckand and the style a modern take on golden era hip hop. The delivery is fresh and the productions even better.
Dilated Peoples – Friday the 4th of July 15:30 @ Arena
A classic hip hop group known for their live performance and ready with a new album due in August. Their show in 1999 at Roskilde was praised, so expect a good performance from DJ Babu, Evidence and Rakaa.
DJ Food, DJ Cheeba and DJ Moneyshot – 3 Way Mix – Saturday the 5th of July 12:00 @ Apollo
The three well renowned DJ’s do a 90-minute interpretation of the classic Beastie Boys album “Paul’s Boutique” with four record players using a bunch of the original samples from the album. Based on the trailer, this could be very good!
Outkast – Thursday the 3rd of July 18:30 – Orange
This one should need no explaining. But hopefully they won’t do it like they did at Coachella.
Pusha T – Friday the 4th of July 19:00 @ Avalon
He first made his name through Clipse with his brother Malica but really made a name for himself on Kanye West’s “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” on the songs “So Appalled” and “Runaway”. Last year he released his debut album “My Name Is My Name”. Even though he has gone quite mainstream he is still a very talented rapper who should deliver live. At least he did the last time I saw him.
Earl Sweatshirt – Thursday the 3rd of July 17:30 @ Avalon
The timing is really poor from Roskilde if you also want to see Outkast, but he is still an interesting MC. He has gotten some knacks for his live skills, but is by far one of the most talented from Odd Future in the rap department.
