5 years after their last release, Vincent Van Go Go is back, but this time with a very different sound. You can feel that the band has outgrown their old sound, which was very playful and funky, with a wide range of mixed genres. Vincent Van Go Go´s funky tunes and lively performances were one of the reasons that the band got established as one of the strongest live bands, with concerts all over Europe, making it as far as to performing in USA and Canada.
Now they have created a comeback album which is far more mature in its sound, but in the end, is still a strange mix of the more lively and funky sound they are known for, and a far more serious one. It seems they have taken a step away from their old funky sound, and have moved in a more electronic – When Saints Go Machine inspired direction. With some highlights like the ballad “The Very Best Of” that to me is a very strong love song, which makes up for some of the other songs, like “The Truth”, which seems a bit rushed and unfinished – a shame, considering the album’s potential, which ends up never being fulfilled. It is a shame that a band with many good quality, never seems to be able to pull it together on their albums, with 3 mediocre albums so far, all we can hope for is a better 4th album, and let’s hope we don’t have to wait 5 more years this time.
