Odd Collection gives you a mix of all kinds of electronic sub genres, both good and bad. EP I seems perfect for nightclubs but their mix of dub, electronica and house can also be too much.
The trio consists of singer Christoffer Budtz, songwriter and producer Rasmus Jarby and co-producer Andreas Langhorn. Christoffer has a very sensitive voice that fits very well for Rasmus and Andreas’ productions. A very good example is the song Weekend Floor. An up-tempo, sensitive, delicious song, that reminds you of Disclosure.
Odd Collection’s sound is very mixed and you can hear inspirations in everything from already mentioned Disclosure, to 90’s Eurodance, to Kendrick Lamar. It’s very interesting mixing all these sub-genres but it can also be very dangerous. The two singles Trouble (How I Love Ya) and Bullet Hole doesn’t work very well. They are boring and sounds like something that everybody with a Mac can make up.
Songs like Cope With This, 5th Collection and already mentioned Weekend Floor have a much more exciting production, and much more appeal. On these songs Odd Collection really shows that their mix works.
The last track of the EP is Put A Fight. A very traditional dub-step song witch is banging your brain into your skull for the whole 4 minutes the song stretches over.
Odd Collection has a lot of potential. The producers are extremely creative and Christoffer Budtz has a great voice that fits very well for the music, but they need to seek deeper to find their own sound in this big mix of electronic sub-genres.
