First, he released the single “Kostumeramt” which after only 42 days, was selected as the Top Track at Soundvenue. Then everything took off and just a few weeks after the top track nomination the same magazine published that the Aarhus talent would play as support for Swedish Kate Boy at Soundvenue Session at Rust. Now you might think that things would stagnate, but no! Once again the young talent would only need a few weeks before Soundvenue named him one of four Breakin ‘Sound ‘13 artists among Kill J, San Fermin and Phoebe Kiddo.
Recently, the local talent was also chosen by Newbees Festival among prominent names like So-So Echo and Sekuoia. The festival will take place in Studenterhus Aarhus (27-28 September) so – be there!
Now he’s finally ready to launch its debut EP with release 3 September! With his own “Karl-melancholy” are you as listener are invited on a trip through the night rumble dark. With its own form of poetry you’ll be drawn to the dark. A journey that starts on the “1. Sal” (1st Floor). Why start at the bottom floor when you, like Karl William, are able to start on the first floor!
From the first track he makes it clear why he has been invited to the company of Breaking Sounds. Well produced and great nasal vocals. Perfect for the ride home Sunday night, while infinite lampposts fly past in the urban darkness. Although he actually sings “Jeg kan ikke længere find mig selv” (I can no longer find myself) it now seems like Karl William HAVE found himself. What he found is NOT in any way a bad thing!
The mood continues over the second track “Flydende” (Floating)while the two tracks at the same time creates a doubt. A doubt of genre-definition. Maybe that’s actually one of Karl’s strengths – that he is developing a new sound you can’t classify in one single genre. The music and atmosphere moves over pop-electro elements, a rapping expression on the vocals, while his look is similar to the Danish version of Ed Sheeran.
Third track, lead single “Kostumeramt” hits you like a wall. The number smells of radio potential while it is atypical in the coolest way! The tracks need no further introduction. Last track “Tryghed (Selvom Jeg Godt Ved)” shows a rather different side of Karl than the previous three. Play more with the pace and vocals, but as Karl himself says “I’m wasting my days, running around and playing safe” – He’s actually right, everything’s about playing in life, and if there is one thing Karl manage like no other artist, it’s to play with the reviewers ears!
4 / 5 stars from Sound of Aarhus for an EP that smells of international class in Danish!
