Previously, we’ve been around two of the songs from this EP by Catch The Breeze here at SOA. ‘International Love’ and ‘Seven Years Of Heavy Dreams’, two great songs that really brings some “old school” values to todays weird Danish music scene. Today they are releasing their new EP – and releasing a new video to the song ‘The Shallow Bed’.
‘When The Sparks Fly’ is the opening track, and it starts out the EP in a relaxed kind of way, at least the first part of the song. Nice and easy, it’s an introduction to the band and what they are capable of . It’s a song that makes you want to hear more. It’s actually a really strong opener; it’s structured, stylish and has a really, really good sound.
The second song on the EP is ‘Seven Years Of Heavy Dreams’ – a song that I like more and more for every listen. This is where singer Aage Hedensted’s vocal really fits the atmosphere of the song. It’s extremely catchy, but still has this sad feeling to it – but you can see now that this was the obvious first single-choice. You can find more about this song, and you can see the video right HERE
Today Catch The Breeze aren’t only releasing a new EP, but also a brand new video to the song ‘The Shallow Bed’ – the next song on the EP. For some reason, this is actually my favorite on this EP. I don’t know why, but it really hits me. Like the opening track, it’s well structured and has this great build up – nice and easy, with the vocals entering at just the right time. And why not give the song an outro that gives you just the noise guitar you were looking for.
‘Reunite Your Forces’ might be just to structured for my taste, and in my opinion it’s the weakest song on the EP. It feels like this song could’ve been their chance to really bring some edge to this EP, but this never really happens – and the song gives you this impression that it’s simply not strong enough. Where Catch The Breeze proves that they are experienced musicians, who knows what works, on the other songs, they fail to show it on this particular song.
The EP finishes with their second single, ‘International Love’. This song also has a great video to it, that you can see right HERE. This is definitely a strong finish, that rounds up a well produced, well structured debut EP. These guys knows what they’re doing, you can feel that all the way through the EP, but it feels like they’ve got 5-10 % more in them. For now, it’s a 4/5 – but I can’t wait to hear more!
Catch The Breeze will be performing at HeadQuarters this Saturday, for their EP release, and we’ve got the honor of presenting them. You can read more about the event right HERE.
