Release November 18th
It shall be no secret – we have always seen Baba Ganoush as one of the most promising electronic artists of this city. With that said his debut EP surprised us!
Maybe you saw him at Sommer.Chillout.Aarhus 2013 or maybe you saw him as support for major french act Chinese Man when they visited Train in October. No matter what, all of these bookings were made without having released more than a couple of singles. Now he dropped his debut EP with the spectacular name “T H A T . S . Y“. Seven tracks with two featuring artists included. Respectively Aarhus based Karl William and Gaïa.
Intro track ‘Lost Love‘ is actually an old favorite at the SOA office. It was previously released as the music for the track ‘Lost Brooklyn Love‘ and featured T.A.I.T. In this EP version the vocal-edits from ICE-t have been removed which makes the entire track appear as a dreamy trip home from nightclubs in the dark night.
Second track ‘I Got ill ft. Karl William‘ could very well be the next big thing coming out from P6 Beat late at night. With the class of Baba’s slow beats and melancholic melodies and the soulful voice of one of the most hyped rappers right now, you can’t resist it. Lyrics focused on unseen depression and romance in, what could very well be a story about a young protagonist.
Next it’s followed by three chillstep tracks, with ‘So Much More‘ and title-track ‘THAT. S.Y‘ as the obvious highlights. It is the type of music that will grab hold of your heart and slow down the pace of your heartbeat. Not in a bad way – in a relaxing way! These tracks screams for red wine, cigarettes and late-night drives without a predetermined goal.
Last two tracks features another aspiring Aarhus artist. Gaïa is, in her own words, A cigarette smoking, secretly dancing Natural Lady with a soulful voice – and indeed she is! Maybe you heard last track ‘BRNTP ft Gaïa‘ before Sommer.Chillout.Aarhus but no-matter what it’s great. Baba Ganoush really shows some exceptional talent with this debut (yes debut!) EP. The entire EP is beyond well-produced. This is undoubtedly a good answer to the next king of chillstep electronic in town!
