I was prepared for a solid rock show – but fuck me – this was something above and beyond. From the moment the band hit the stage (rather early yet in the day) the passionate and rowdy crowd got into it. Front-man Denis Lyxzen was hopping around like Mick Jagger got possessed by a bag of grasshoppers who’d swallowed gun powder – and the incredible wallop from the band was enough to almost take the breath out of your lungs. Heavy doesn’t quite even do it justice – their set had teeth. Before the 3rd number had even began – Lyxzen was mixing in the crowd, further inciting more polite rioting and happy slapping amongst those willing. A very amped up, but respectful crowd in reguards to moshing.
Lyxzen did however bring up a great point during one of his inspirational monologues – that there was not ONE single woman performing on stage at the festival that day – and called out NorthSide for that – telling them “That’s Fucked up – Northside – you need to sort that the FUCK OUT” and it’s true.
Then they went back to pummeling their instruments and the crowd reached fever pitch during “On The Waterfront”. A great early moment in NS16 was in the bank.
An inspiratational monologue and a show above and beyond! Refused did more than well at NorthSide. (5/6)
