The incredible Kurt Vile visits Voxhall this Thursday!
Kurt Vile is heading back to Aarhus! One of America’s most loved indie troubadours will be performing this Thursday in Voxhall. Since his previous concert last year in Train, he’s released his 5th full length l.p., “Wakin on a Pretty Day”, and beefed up his steady backing band – The Violators. 2010’s breakthrough record “Smoke rings for my Halo” made many mainstream music press’ top albums, and his new offering could be his best yet!
Since performing with Philadelphia’s most high profile indie/Americana act- The War On Drugs on their First album “Wagonwheel Blues” , Vile has been steadily recording and touring with his solo outfit, and fresh from this year’s Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, Spain, both he and the band have been garnering glowing reviews from the press everywhere he lands. Kurt has been compared to nearly every American songwriter in the book from Dylan to J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.), but remains difficult to pigeon-hole, as his sound ranges from classic 1970’s Americana, to 90’s era grunge, with a bit of synths thrown in, and a particular style of guitar playing remiscient at times of The Smiths’ Johnny Marr and a vocal technique somewhere in between Iggy and Thurston Moore (of sonic youth fame, whom he’s often toured with).
Voxhall might just be the perfect spot to catch such an early summer concert as well. As most of you know it’s located just along the canal downtown, and with close proximity to the outdoor drinker’s haven of Moelleparken, you can save money on getting a little tipsy with the punks and hobos before getting out your wallet for a plastic cup of oat soda in the venue. The Library closes at 19.00, so girls, make sure you pee or do whatever you do while drinking, because doors are at 20.00 for the concert.
Support will be by the UK’s Will Samson, which on first listen sounds like nice and tidy Songwriter. His set starts at 21.00 so make sure you get a good spot and as always: please respect your artists and other concert attendees and don’t talk all the way through it and be nice! there are plenty of areas in the venue to chat!
At time of writing tickets are still available at 180 dkk.
