Must Hear: “Hyde”, “Daggers & Omens”, “Akrasia”
Let me be honest. It is not often that I come across a new release, which both surprises me in a positive way, suits my personal taste in music, and makes me wonder why the band is not already creating buzz on the international blogosphere. Today, Danish band Paper Cranes unveiled a new EP and it evokes exactly those thoughts in my head.
The Aarhus-based three-piece, originally hailing from Odense, has been teasing us for years with single pieces on Soundcloud, following their debut EP ‘YRTPS’ two years ago. Now the wait is finally over, as the band just unveiled their new five-track EP ‘D H A R K’ featuring two fresh tracks ‘Hyde’ and ‘Akrasia’, and three already released ones. Though, I have already heard three of five tracks prior to the release, the interplay that all five tracks create in combination is simply mindblowing.
Expect an almost Nikolaj Vonsild-ish voice on e.g. ‘Hyde’, a guitar similar to that of Simon Kjær of Chinah hidden in the depth of a sea of electronic marshmallow, and a haunting surface, that draws you into a universe where the insecure becomes confident. This might simply be one of the most incredible EP releases of 2016. Let’s just hope, that the three-piece will perform in Aarhus soon.
