It might be, that winter is kickin’ in, both in terms of weather and your mind. And it might be, that today is all about handing over Aarhus to those who rarely come out. Those who’ve planned this drunken night out for months, and thinks “J-dag” is an excuse to get absolutely pissed. If you, like me, think that its best to stay inside, I’ve got a way of lightening up that soppy mood of yours.
You see, while Aarhus, on this night, is turning into a scene from 1992’s horror film Braindead, two local bands have decided to prove good things can happen on “J-dag”. Today, both J. Bruno and Yune are releasing new singles. “Why are you writing about two singles, from two bands, in one article?”, you ask. Simple; to underline that these two bands must be on the verge of a definite breakthrough, and to save time, obviously.
Yune – “Animals”
If you consider yourself “up to date” on the Danish music scene, you’d know, that while this song is officially released today, it was premiered Wednesday on Debut (P6 Beat). “Animals” is a 5:20 reward to those, who enjoy actually listening to music. Who enjoys when music is well-written and well-produced, and that it doesn’t have to go anywhere. The post-rock foundation is spiced with atmospheric synth and an enchanting vocal, a recipe close to my heart.
J. Bruno – “Do You Even”
Though circling around a certain melancholy, “Do You Even” is a perfect follow up after listening to the new single from Yune. It’s where you get up from your favorite chair, and start dancing towards your fridge after that cold 6-pack you’ve kept. The funkiness and playful gems in the song will automatically generate those awkward moves of yours, but who cares; you’re alone, and you’re in the process of getting ready to welcome your friends, who’re almost on your doorstep.
