Local pop-outfit – and last year’s winner of ’Fatter Eskil Prisen’ – PALA is premiering a new song today, and it comes with a brilliant video, that shows a new side of the talented group.
A couple of years back, we premiered one their latest singles, ‘Fireworks’, which, from what we can gain from the numbers on our page, got A LOT of attention. It’s nowhere to be found these days, and with ‘Weekend Girl’, the single premiered today, we see a mellow, more melancholic side of PALA, and a group that has redefined and found themselves – and it works!
The other day, on their Facebook page, the local group told the world, what this song is really about; the man’s struggle between wanting and needing true love, and at the same time the urge of being able to be free and independent. You can definitely feel that in the song, the melancholic stories (you know, feelings and such), and the bigger, more festive soundscapes that give that feeling of freedom.
Most importantly, at least to me, this is a song that shows a side of PALA, where they seem more, well, laid back. They’re not trying too hard, they’re keeping it simple and just being them, and it really pays off. It’s less of a ‘banger’ thing, and Søren Ulsig, lead singer in the band, seems incredibly comfortable with this, and in the end, the result could go on to give them that hit single. I don’t see why not?
‘Weekend Girl’ is really promising, and has definitely left me longing for more – and that’s just great timing, considering there’s a gig at SPOT Festival coming up next month!
‘Weekend Girl’ is mixed by Peter Kjædegaard and Carsten Heller, and mastered at ET Mastering. Music video by Moment Studio.
