The story of Ponyblod continues!
It was with high expectations and a big hope that Khal Allan and Tue Track would invite me into their universe of rimes and scratches, that I was visiting Train this friday. The atmosphere was from the beginning very good, when I entered the door into Train, loud hiphop tunes was shooting right at me. A positive start!
Marvelous Mossel was the support act, and started the party with his 80’ disco moves, and some serious storytelling/ old school rap texts about everything from Ninja Turtles to a week in the bed with the flue. Tue Track was behind the records during the warm up, and was the connecting link through the whole concert. Marvelous Mossel is a funny gimmick you have to take seriously. A universe of words and inspiration was created. It was despite of his fantastic attitude and peculiar songs a bit ling. I missed something extra that could keep me interested and focused though the entire warm up.
After Marvelous Mossel it was time for some headlining act, and like a tag team battle Khal Allan switched in, and was on the microphones. The two guys from Ponyblod has been criticized for their live performance, so I was very exited to see how it was in real life.
And it was a tough thing for the two guys to maintain the high level from the record.
The album from Ponyblod is, in my opinion, the best danish hip-hop album from this year. And they are definitely capable of bringing the quality from the album on stage. However, with Khal Allan as front man, and Tue Track standing behind him, it was quite difficult for them to fill out the stage. There’s no doubt Khal Allan is a serious talent, but with the type of hip-hop these guys deliver, it’s really difficult to be a one man army.
The highlights from the concert, came in the songs where Tue Track also takes the mic! In these songs the two rappers stand side by side, and that’s where it really works for them. This is a relatively new project, and i’m pretty sure that Ponyblod will continue delivering incredible songs, and that they in time will work better on stage together.
