»It’s now the point of the show where I get to introduce one of our featured guests for the evening. A singer-songwriter from Denmark whose first album we’ve fallen in love with, so please give a warm welcome to the stage – Majke Voss Romme.« – Lead Singer Brian Molko (MTV Unplugged)
Before I’ll talk about their new collaboration release, let me please go back in time, to where my personal Placebo-fication began.
Fourteen years ago I was living in a small town in Southern Jutland, in a town called Vojens to be more precise. It was a Sunday morning in the middle of December, cold weather and clear skies outside when suddenly someone rang the doorbell. According to my parents, that was Santa Claus stopping by our house to deliver the next small advent present. Without even noticing that my dad wasn’t at the table, I ran to the door to meet Santa Claus, but for some reason he decided to leave just in time for me not to see him – maybe dad told him to fuck off from our driveway.
Fortunately, his present was still there in front of the door – the F1 2000 video game for Playstation. I still have it somewhere today, but the only thing I remember from that game was the amazing soundtrack ‘Every You Every Me’ by British alternative rock band Placebo. I don’t think it is possible to count how many times I’ve driven around Silverstone in Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari with Mika Häkkinen just behind me and Placebo’s track playing in the background.
Now, fast-forward fourteen years, and we’re almost back in December to receive yet another advent present. I don’t play F1 2000 anymore, but I still love Placebo. Tomorrow it’s the first advent before Christmas this year, and Placebo have decided to invite Danish Broken Twin aka Majke Voss Romme to collaborate on a small present for us all. A moody unplugged version of ‘Every You Every Me’ without all the electronic instruments.
The best thing is, that fans of both Placebo and Broken Twin, previously featured as one of our Artists of 2014, will love the unplugged acoustic version of the track. The MTV Unplugged was showed on Danish MTV yesterday, but if you didn’t see it yesterday you should check out the recorded version of the show below.
In total, the show is not a pile of greatest hits tracks from Placebo but is more of a melting pot of both newer tracks, mixed with older ones. According to lead singer Brian Molko they simply found it too boring to only present naked unplugged versions of older tracks. Check out Placebo featuring Majke Voss Romme below.
