Nine years ago, these guys found each other through the most ‘old school’ way possible: contact ads. Yeah, you read it just right, contact ads. In April 2008, according to their Wiki-page, they played their debut show – in Aalborg.
Four years later, they won DR P3’s KarriereKanonen alongside Djames Braun and Kaliber. Obviously, they’d come along way – made possible by hard work, dedication and a no bull-shit sound. Winning a thing like that is a pretty big deal if you ask me – especially at the time!
In 2013, Dance With Dirt released their first full-length, ‘We Are Dance With Dirt’, via Target in Denmark and Pop Up Records in Germany. And winning KarriereKanonen brings attention, shows, hype and all that – but given the fact that these guys are actual musicians, it didn’t seem enough to just ‘feed the hype’. They had to figure out their own sound and work towards that difficult second album that they could be proud of – which, apparently, turned out to be more difficult than they’d imagined.
It happened, though, earlier this year; the long awaited second album was released. The album called ‘Marathon’, is definitely something they can be proud of – and I really mean that. I mean, there’s a couple of hits who could easily have been potential radio hits here in DK, maybe even outside DK as well. It’s one of those scenarios, where you wonder: what would’ve happened if they’d been a bit more prepared when winning KarriereKanonen? Is there a reason why ‘Drunk Lovers’, for instance, isn’t being played heavily on DR P-whatever? I don’t know, and quite frankly, the story of taking their time to find THEIR sound is way better, isn’t it?
This Friday, though, we’re witnessing the last of this band. In other words, Dance With Dirt will perform their final show on their ‘Final Wave Tour‘, meaning their last ever show, and they will do it at HQ in Aarhus. It’s definitely going to be a touching moment, when Kristoffer, Magnus, Jonathan, and Mikkel will be playing their last ever Dance With Dirt-chords together – but you can be sure of this: they’ll be giving it ALL they’ve got to make sure, that you’ll be having an awesome time at HQ. They will never die, they will only disappear.
Support this evening is the always lovely Federal Unicorn.
