Newbees Festival is really taking shape at the moment, but to help making both days run smooth, we’ve invited one of the most experienced guys when it comes to upcoming music in Denmark.
Casper Bach Hegstrup, the voice most of us know from the Danish radio station P6 Beat, where he and Alicia Jordanova presents the best upcoming music the Danish scene has to offer in the show ‘Debut’. For a while he’s been searching for new talents for a living, but he’s also had quite the musical experiences himself. For some years he was drumming in CODY and Sleep Party People, and during his work with KarriereKanonen he had experiences with The Minds of 99, Vild Smith, Sonja Hald, For Akia, Keep Camping, The Eclectic Moniker, Djämes Braun, Hunch Betters – music that seems quite similar to what Newbees Festival presents or has been presenting.
About the festival he says: “I’ve always had a good eye towards Aarhus regarding new danish bands. And I’ve played in Aarhus several times with bands such as CODY and Sleep Party People. I’ve been attending Newbees as audience and played there myself, and it’s the best spot to be when you’re looking for great bands under the radar. And since I am now doing radio at P6 BEAT playing new stuff, it was an honor even to be asked”. He continues with a focus on the importance of actually having a festival like this: “As I see it there are at least two or three important criteria. For one, it’s a great opportunity for the bands – they are being taking serious by “the business” and will know that people are listening. Second, I suppose it’s a nice place for new music biz apprentices to work. Third – and very important – it’s rock solid curated shows for all of us interested in the new stuff!”
Newbees Festival presents some of the best Danish talents, upcoming musicians just about to make their breakthrough. This is quite similar to the job that Casper Bach Hegstrup is doing at P6 Beat, and it seemed obvious to ask him what he’s looking for when searching for “newbees”: “Music is all about feelings – and if the little hairs on my arm raise, when I listen, I’m on the right path (regardless of genres). And of course I also search for zeitgeist, good melodies, swung, nice production or great lyrics. “
We can’t wait to see him on stage at Newbees Festival, 26.-27. September!
