Once again, the time has come for Newbees Festival in Aarhus.
Every year, at this festival, you have the chance to get a feel of a bunch of upcoming and still moderately unknown Danish artists – before they start swimming in popularity and sold out concerts.
The two days (Thursday and Friday this week) include everything from psychedelic rock and soul to hard bashing electro pop… and lots of beers of course, not to miss. Usually, the crowd is very miscellaneous and hugely interested in diving into new music experiences. And Stakladen as a venue, together with its crowd, is very cosy. You won’t be going home at 21 o’ clock, that’s for sure.
Of course, we have a couple of recommendations for you, if you don’t know what to pick from the entire 10 act-line up!
Jærv – Thursday at 23:00
It’s time for some local electro pop – in Danish! If you haven’t experience Amanda Glindvad and her companions before, why not give it a go at this year’s edition of Newbees Festival?
The debut EP ‘Dit Hav’ was released back in March this year, and includes singles such as ‘I Staver’ and ‘Falder’, which received a lot of media attention – especially in the Danish blogosphere.
Farveblind – Thursday at 00:00
This is a totally different genre than the previous. Yeah, we would actually define it as heavy bass electronica. Playing at midnight, we cannot get around the fact that this is the perfect time for this duo to blow up the party. And also, the expected late night mood goes perfectly hand in hand with their musical goal: to make you all dance your ass off! They’ll be finishing the night with flashing lights, hard bass and drums that will make your heart skip a beat and rhythmic, electronic melodies that will keep your arms in the air and your feet jumping around.

IRAH – Friday at 22:00
IRAH is magnificent and moody pop music for the loving but a bit gloomy hearts. It’s filled with dark synth sounds and intense vocals that provide IRAH’s sound with a crispy and almost Rn’B kinda vibe. It is very mood setting, and takes your mind completely away from your current surroundings and into a darker space with glimpsing lights flickering to the synth vibes. You can almost picture a starry night sky with glowing, floating objects when listening to the song ‘Mirroring’ – one of their most popular songs right now.

Bleach Blondes – Friday at 23:00
We are really excited about these guys! It’s a little bit like garage/surfer/psych vibe rock that got a decent clean up before recording. And we mean that in a good way. We like it when things are a bit messy, but this is definitely a nice sound construction as well. It seems that the vocals are airy echoes coming from the background throughout some of their songs, and this really makes the guitars and the drums stand out. Their sound is very enchanting, and you can’t really stop yourself from getting caught up in it.
They look like rock stars, and they definitely sound like rock stars. Be prepared to hear more from these raw and captivating guys.

Masasolo – Friday at 21:00
These guys are really growing in popularity these days with their special take on psych-pop. At the moment, a lot of Danish bands are sounding exactly alike in this genre, but with Masasolo it seems they’ve found that signature sound. When hearing them on the radio, it’s much easier to point out that it’s them than with other bands. Masasolo just released the debut EP ‘Breakup’, and it’s very much something we can recommend giving a spin. Here’s a video to their first single, ‘Really Thought She Loved Me’:
