These days everyone is looking at Denmark for the best noise/punk/hardcore in the world, unfortunately to the rest of the world – Denmark is the capitol of Copenhagen, and the kings and princes of that place are Iceage and Lower, who both have a couple of big time indie zines and blogs in their corner. Enough about Copenhagen and those guys, they’re great, we get it.
Now I’m not tryin’ to incite some kind of Tupac and Biggie kind of coast beef, but we’ve got Yung. A trio that really have only done a handful of shows in venues that anyone but the underground illuminati here have access too, and released only one single and a tape that from my reconnaissance was not even in stores, but here, we finally have something that I believe will make waves out of the 8000 postcodes, genuine proof that Aarhus can come up with a document that we can be just as nasty, beautiful and fucking brilliant as that other city. Yung and their new video/single “Nobody Cares”
“Nobody Cares” is a clusterfuck of choppy guitars, grungey lo-fi production and an almost sing-along chorus. I don’t want to start naming what I think the guys sound like, but from what I’ve heard, we’re heading in a more Hüsker du or early Replacements territory – maybe even stumbling in to some American west coast stuff like White Fence. The video is a jump cut montage of Aarhus city fun, live footage, and lead singer Mikkel (I think….) surrounded in an effigy of tea lights. Its pace is as frantic, fragmented and beautifully rough as the track its bound to. Naturally it appears its done the right way: VHS. Give it a look.
Our city is represented today by Yung. Rejoice! A full length album (presumably vinyl and download) will be out soon on Mastermind records, and distributed by our own Badstue Rock record shop, right in downtown Aarhus. Check the band’s website for further instructions yungbandstuff.com
In other news: Lower also released their new video today, bunch of scallywags walking around the city and sitting on couches, it’s great, but Yung’s is cooler. That is all.
