The video to their first single “Raise your head” is out on YouTube today! SOA-writer Thabile Shange had a chat with lead guitarist Mikkel Dyrehave.
The climb to fame is a long way for any musician who wants to go big in the business. The same goes for the five musicians Christian, Christoffer, Mikkel, Emil and Anders.
They met at Performers House, a boarding school for performing arts, where they joined forces, found their distinctive style of rock and went on to create the now acclaimed band Go Go Berlin.
Lead guitarist Mikkel Dyrehave had the following to say about the single for the SOA readers:
[chat question=”Tell me about the new single ”Raise your head”“]
As mentioned before it’s our first single. It’s a bit different because it has a slight melancholic feel while being upbeat at the same time. We’ve been really excited because we get the chance to finally and officially put out some of our work
[chat question=”Go Go Berlin brands itself as being the best live band in Denmark. You go on stage and perform an energetic and enigmatic live set. Does it stick out from the usual feel of Go Go Berlin?“]
I don’t reallyt think it sticks out. Go Go Berlin has a lot of different songs. Some songs are pretty down beat and quiet, and others are upbeat and wild.
[chat question=”Unlike last year Go Go Berlin finally got to perform as a part of the official Spot Festival line-up. You are playing at a lot of different festivals this year (Ex. : Skanderborg, Roskilde). Where is Go Go Berlin heading now?“]
Spot festival was really great! We finally got to go on stage, play our music and just bring our A-game to the crowd. We are super excited about all the festivals we’re playing this summer, and just playing our music. Things are really going well for the band, so we are only heading one way.
And needless to say that way is up.
Visually Go Go Berlin is an eclectic mash of old, familiar and idolized rockbands. There’s a sense of cliché about the long hair and pointy leather boots (Bon Jovi anyone?), but Go Go Berlin manages to take those familiar looks and make into something of their own.
Their single is very much the same. Like most other rockbands, the charm of Go Go Berlin lies in the raspy unique voice of lead singer Christian Vium. The single manages to reach the kind of rock heights that haven’t been seen on the danish music scene in ages, especially in a time filled with electro beats from shoegaze artists.
Raise Your Head is catchy with its simple beat and repetitive lyrics and is a great choice as a first single for the band.
