The 4 Guys From the Future are back with a new video, Nothing To Say, the first single from their future album Adagio, which is set for release on the 28th October by Tambourhinoceros.
The first couple of listens makes you feel like you’re walking on a pretty daze. The vocals are hypnotizing and create a beautiful vibe around the careful beats. With a refreshing and almost carefree guitar-riff to top it off, it sounds like something you might find in a place like LA. It is in fact Danish, and the message of the song is not as free-flowing as it sounds.
Amidst the harmonic fills and chilled lo-fi ambiance, “Can anybody hear me call” / “I’ve got nothing to say” are the first words to be heard. This solid contradiction of wanting attention but having nothing to say in the end, hits the brain’s recognition-button and forces you to start re-thinking the whole essence of this song. The lead singer, Bjarke Porsmose, characterizes the theme as schizophrenic love, which is absolutely evident in both lyrics and sound. It has a rather uplifting sound, but has bittersweet, heavy lyrics – and the catchy riffs and danceable nodes are played in a gloomy way.
The crisp and intense combination of psychedelic melancholy and futuristic easy-goingness is reflected in the graphics of the video, where the slightly chaotic mind of the songwriter is vividly pictured: blurred, distorted and pixilated. The video is three dimensional, which emphasizes the song’s lightly abstract nature with its spacey and colorful mix of visionary substance. If you have anaglyph 3D glasses, it is definitely worth a try!
The song may to some extent seem repetitive, but it is most likely also the point. Personally, they’ve hit the perfect balance between sentimentality and coolness – but go ahead and see for yourself below:
