The local duo follows up on their debut album from 2012 with a new EP!
About a year ago Deer Bear released their first full-length album “House Behind The Eyes”. It was received with very mixed reviews, but it definitely proved that these guys are something very special with their very own sad Americana sound.
The story behind Deer Bear is also quite special, as it is a duo with a metal singer gone soft. Lars Bjørn-Hansen proved on the debut that he is a very talented singer, and together with Anne Hjort they create a very unique sound.
Since their debut you can definitely feel that this duo has grown a lot. It seems like they’ve become more aware of who they are as musicians, and in what direction they want to take the listener. The new EP “Darker Growth” is, just like the debut, a melancholic journey, but this time they invite the listener into a melancholic universe where steps have become firmer and the head is held higher.
On the EP you find 4 songs that shows you just how gifted musicians they really are.
Especially when it comes to lyrics! Take for example the song ‘Brainwaves’ (linked above the article), where the lyrics reflect on how brainwaves can rise from quake or a trauma. About how we’re slaves to the will of the wave, but also gives the idea that we might be able to act as wave-breakers to each other?
All in all, this is the perfect follow up on their debut album from last year – and we can definitely recommend this local duo, with the felling that they are meant for something huge!
Recently they’ve been performing at OFF SPOT showcases and at Meldocia Festival, and we really hope to seem them perform in Aarhus again very soon.
