It’s always interesting to see the first announcements from SPOT Festival. Rumors have been going on about who did and who didn’t get the reply they wanted from their application, and with the first 31 acts, announced Friday, we can actually start comparing, start the wondering and start looking forward to the festival in May!
First, let’s have a look at the names from our Scandinavian neighbors. SIGRID (NO) is probably the biggest talent here, playing all the right showcases and gigs, but we don’t really know much about her and the music yet. The video used at the SPOT-profile is two years old, and I’m pretty sure the relatively new band constellation gives us something bigger and slightly different. ALMA from Finland, SHITKID from Sweden, and SLØTFACE from Norway provides the Scandinavian punk-attitude alongside the Norwegian “psych punk” band Death By Unga Bunga, while Nils Bech will be coming to SPOT with his beautiful album ‘Echo’ from last year.
Among the 31 firs names, we find a lot of, well, established musicians. While bands such as AV AV AV and Blondage (used to be Rangleklods), and for some reason also Tim Schou, must be considered among the bigger names announced so far, we also find established musicians in new constellations. Behind THANKS we have two former members of Alphabeat, and in MANTUA we have what can be considered a Danish super group with Silas Bjerregaard (Turboweekend), Jens Skov Thomsen (VETO), and Malte Aarup-Sørensen (Duné).
SPOT Festival is also the place for fresh new names, who impressed the year before. Friday’s announcements include LiveCamp (smukfest) winner FARVEBLIND, who just recently released their debut, and the solo project from Rasmus Littauer, everyone’s favorite drummer, School of X; we predict this to be one of the more hyped shows at the festival, by the way. Also, Code Walk and Masasolo impressed last year, and are, obviously, to be found on this year’s poster! The same goes for The New Family, who just spent 8 weeks at Barometerlisten at Danish Radio P3.
