When young Karen Marie Ørsted (aka. MØ) Friday went up on the big Forrest scene (Skovscenen red.) it was already clear from the start how she has done something right with her PR . The audience stood like sardines in a tin! How a new artist this way can build up a hype without having more than a few songs in her backpack is impressive.
On stage, she had three other musicians consisting of a drummer, a guitarist and an “all-other-things” DJ. Unfortunately, it also gave the impression of just putting on a CD with an intro without actually live music besides the “press-play” from the DJ. I’ve often been served with the sentence that “it belong to the pop-music” but in the middle of my small creative mind a live concert is more than backing track and a few strong live elements. Certainly, however, she can sing – even really convincing! Luckily the Guitarist and drummer gave me the small pieces that actually made the concert LIVE. The problem might be that she just does not have THAT much material in her backpack, so everything appears new to an audience that gradually have followed her for long time.
After all, she showed increasingly positive trends with her voice and different choreography, the sound however appeared very monotonous which never really caught anything but the front audience. The question is just whether they party because of the music from the stage or the fact that they “found themselves at a MØ concert”.
Her voice, the guitarist and drummer made this crawl just above average so all in all, a concert for 3 of 5 stars from Sound Of Aarhus.
