Now, things haven’t exactly been going quite well for MFM (Mejlgade for Mangfoldighed) this year. Earlier this year, they were forced to move the festival to September, due to circumstances we aren’t really sure of – and now they feel forced to cancel the event!
First of all, they had to change the date due to missing out on the funding – whether it was their own fault or not i don’t know, what I know is that I got disappointed; MFM is really a day you look forward to when living in Aarhus. Anyway, it only meant that we had to wait a bit longer – and know, nearly two weeks before the event, it is cancelled. Not exactly the best year for the guys behind this event! It would appear that there’s been some changes in the security regulations, meaning that MFM would have to increase the amount of security – resources they don’t have.
One could speculate in why these regulations have been changed all of a sudden, and on their FB-page you can read some angry comments about the people at the municipality, that they are trying to ruing to cultural scene in Aarhus. However, given the success from the last couple years, this event has been growing and growing. This year, it seems like everyone knew that it was going to be way bigger than it usually is – so did the people in charge of the security regulations. It seems sort of fair, that if an event like this grows bigger – and in such a narrow street as Mejlgade – you’ve got to have more focus on the security.
Stop blaming someone, but go to Mejlgade and enjoy what this lovely street has to offer – and give what you have to offer to Mejlgade.
We’ll see you there!
