This local Aarhus band is not at all rookies in the business. Dad Rocks! Has played at both The Great Escape in Brighton and also once before at SPOT Festival in 2011. The last couple of days they’ve been around Europe on Tour visiting places like Hamburg, Berlin, München and Zurich tonight. They even played a live version of the song ”Battle Hymn of the Fox Father” featured above for BalconyTV in Hamburg.
It all started back in the beginning of 2010, when the mastermind behind it all, Icelandic Snævar Njáll Albertsson started the band. The sold-out debut EP ”Digital Age” was released the same year in April, and followed by the critically acclaimed debut LP ”Mount Modern” where also the song above is to be found.
Even though Dad Rocks! Sounds a bit like a heavy rock band – this is not the case at all. As they say, they play Contemporary tractor-music with a hint of cinnamon and this is really more than adequate for their style. With instruments from guitars over trumpet, violin and handclaps they have made a unique mix of folk, pop and lo-fi with complex anthem-like arrangements.
Lyrically it is clear that Snævar finds his inspiration in the relations closest to him and as he also says, his little daughter is his main source of inspiration and also the one who inspired the name Dad Rocks!
