Setting Sun is an impressive first release from the native Aarhus quartet, Mountains & Parachutes Although it is not a show stopping debut, it is a notable example of the untapped potential that Aarhus musicians have to offer. This toe-tapping, pop rock tune is firmly grounded in its energetic beat, and while I find that the vocals tend to sound like they’re reaching at times, the clean guitar riffs keep the melody sounding tight and intentional. The clear climax of the song is the unexpected Franz Ferdinand-esque bridge, which is no doubt a highlight of the live performance as you can’t help but move to it. The vocals in the second verse point out that, “It’s not the music, it’s the beat,” and if Mountains & Parachutes continue to capitalize on this concept, they could have a promising career of party friendly radio hits ahead of them. Stay tuned to Sound of Aarhus for the sophomore track from Mountains & Parachutes – I, for one, am curious to see what else these hometown boys can do!
