The Raveonettes totally shocked…a few people – when they dropped a new track the other day called “This World Is Empty Without You” – a 2 and ½ minute 80s rewind suspiciously devoid of any type of guitar.
The band is trying something new for this year with their “Rave Sound Of The Month” club, releasing a song a month for all of 2016. Not exactly a new concept, but one that strays from the usual business with the Raveonettes releasing an album every 18 months or so (with great success to fans).
The 12 tunes will be collected at the end of the year for a comprehensive CD/vinyl release – so don’t stress if you are old school, the band themselves have assured us it’s coming!
Is it indicative of music in 2016 though that Raveonettes are doing this? They’ve always been an “album format” kinda band to me – and I’m having trouble actually not taking this personally – as I DON’T WANNA WAIT and I certainly don’t want to buy the damn songs twice. But – naturally – it is 2016 and you don’t need to have anything physical or buy anything – so now we have to listen to it one song at a time.
And what about the song? Well – I’m pretty sure Diana Ross and The Supremes fans will recognize the title from their 60s single of the exact same name – and if you’re into A-ha and Soft Cell you’ll dig this. If not – you can always wait until next month for a new single!
What say the people of Aarhus?
