There’s a massive hype following this local treasure, no matter what they do. It’s been like that ever since they first started being on the radar with the release of Daydreamers.
Lowly deserves all the hype, no doubt. Whenever it, the hype, grows bigger; which mainly happens around a single or EP release, it’s followed by concerts, where they gotta justify all this attention – and every single time, they deliver. The concert at SPOT Festival this year proves my point, I think. A concert that was given 5/6 by this very writer, who, when looking back, fell in love with Lowly at that show.
There’s a forthcoming album coming out sometime in 2017 – a debut full length, and yes, we’re very much looking forward to it. The first single, called Deer Eyes, was released today, and it’s a testament to the constant improvement we’ve seen with every release they’ve shared with us.
These incredible musicians are always adding new layers to their music, and this time, the electronic and synth elements make the track feel heavier than a concrete duvet – if you could imagine such a thing – while the vocals make it lighter than air. It’s extremely mature, comfortable and something you wanna have on repeat, especially on a Monday evening, where the side effects from the weekend are slowly kickin’ in, and all you wanna do is go to bed, but it’s still too early.
Deer Eyes is, and the forthcoming album will be, released on Bella Union (Beach House, Father John Misty, The Flaming Lips).
