It doesn’t get more “once in a lifetime” than this Aarhus! The legendary The Sonics are set to perform in Voxhall this Friday.
Long before the notion of “Punk Rock” becoming a household name, these 5 young men got together in 1960 while they were still in high school in Tacoma, Washington. After a few line-up jockeying and a lot of blood and sweat, they released their debut album “Here Are The Sonics” in 1965. Although the record sold modestly locally in the Seattle area, The Sonics were seemingly way ahead of their time (meaning nobody knew who they fucking were) and after recording “Introducing the Sonics” a year later – they essentially just dissolved.
They were gone but not forgotten.
FIFTY years later, The Sonics announced their first new album of material since 1965, “This Is The Sonics”. Their current line-up includes most of the original members of The Sonics, with a little help from the Wailers and the Kingsmen (famous of course for “Louie Louie”). Countless bands through the ages, all the way from the classic punk era to the White Stripes and Black Keys can list The Sonics as influences.
Tickets are still on sale for 260 DKK, Two fantastic acts will be warming up – Childrenn and The Courettes – but for me personally, I’ll just be trying to keep my shit together long enough without exploding until I get to see THE FUCKING SONICS!
