This Sunday, American Joan Shelley will pay her first visit to Denmark – and we’re so lucky, that she’ll be stoppin’ by Atlas, Aarhus.
From what I know, it’s just Joan and her guitarist Nathan Salsburg, and they’ll be performin’ some straight up old-school 60’s folk/country. Yeah, that kind of thing. Probably the perfect set up for a Sunday before school starts again, and your incredibly long summer holidays are suddenly coming to an end.
Joan Shelley has been working on her solo career for some time now, with her first release in 2012, but she’s still quite unknown here in Denmark. Well, it’s time to change that. Fonden VoxHall, which also includes Atlas, has been kind of enough to ask her, what an audience can expect from a Joan Shelley-show:
“They can expect to see an intimate performance of these songs, which are, in my opinion, best heard in small rooms with minimal instrumentation. Myself and guitarist Nathan Salsburg are at our best since we’ve been touring for this album a lot this year and we’ve really worked out the songs.”
And no doubt, this is a humble and grateful artist, that we’ll get to see on stage at Atlas this Sunday. It feels like she’s one of those artists, who’ll always try to do her (or their) very best when performing. Being on tour is something special:
“I never imagined I’d have the ability to go to Denmark. I have no idea what it feels like or what the life experience is, or how the language sounds. To glimpse all these other ways of living and the change in the landscape, the trees and wildlife, I think that is the greatest luxury of living in a time where travel is possible. It is an honor to get to do it with the purpose of playing music.”
