It shall be no secret to you that we’ve been looking for Oh Land and her wishbone tour visit for quite some time now. She has been a star on the Danish music scene for several years, but not only domestic. As a target for the international spotlight she has managed to decorate the pages in huge magazines like Interview Magazine, Vogue, Dazed & Confused, Hunger, Muse and Time Out NY.
When the rest of us were sleeping she performed at shows like David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel, and got a nomination from Billboard (!) as the ‘Queen Of SXSW’ after overwhelming ten stage performances at the major festival.
In September this year she then released her third album ‘Wishbone’ with rave reviews from all sides. Dave Sitek, from the band TV on the Radio paired up with our Danish wonder-queen and released the album on his Federal Prism label. Furthermore lead single Renaissance Girls got some major pull byYeah Yeah Yeah’s Nick Zinner, when he took her somewhat eclectic and classy original version and polished it with the Yeah Yeah Yeah magic.
Right now she is touring around with her WISH BONE tour but Sound of Aarhus were lucky enough to get a small interview with our Danish Wonder-Queen – Remember to experience her at Voxhall on December 14th!
[chat question=”What inspires you to make music?“]
People I meet, and experiences from my life. I typical don’t write when I’m in totally harmony and balance.[/chat]
[chat question=”What has been your best musical experience?“]
When the band and I goes up in a higher unity, and improvise things, which is totally tight.[/chat]
[chat question=”How was it, moving to the US?“]
I love to live in New York City but it’s also a big and overwhelming city that you easily can get lost in. [/chat]
[chat question=”Have you ever regretted turning down Epic Records?“]
I have to follow my heart. And if I do that it’s hard to regret.[/chat]
[chat question=”Do you miss living in Denmark?“]
Sometimes I miss to live in demark. The Danish system is fantastic compared with many other places in the world. We are pretty spoiled.[/chat]
[chat question=”What is the wildest place you have ever performed and why?“]
I think it must be Carnegie Hall … or the opera house in Sydney… or O2 in London. I’ve been playing a lot of amazing places, which have been overwhelming in each their way.[/chat]
[chat question=”If you could choose anyone to feature on one of your songs, who would it be?“]
Freddie Mercury! He is the best male singer I know and he is so wild and cool. I love Queen![/chat]
[chat question=”You are, besides being a musician, known for being a fashion icon. How does your style and music cohere?“]
Clothing is always fun to play with – a bit like dolls! But I don’t often think about fashion. It’s just important for me to express my music visually aswell.[/chat]
[chat question=”What is the best thing about being a musician, besides performing?“]
To write a song, which really didn’t exist 5 minutes ago. It’s a crazy experience to create something and then see that people get touched by it.[/chat]
[chat question=”How do you feel about being nominated as ‘Female Artist of the Year’ by Gaffa magazine?“]
It’s lovely! I won the same price two years ago, so I could weel give another to win the award this year!![/chat]
[chat question=”Finally, are you working on any exciting projects at the moment?“]
I’m busy writing my next music video, which I produce with the same people whom I produced the renaissance girls video with! It’s going to be a kind of mini movie and so fun to work with.[/chat]
