They have been dubbed as the band that embraces youthful enthusiasm by Noisey, by JaJaJa as playing MGMT-ish music, and by Interview Magazine as a favorite for indie-lovers. I couldn’t agree more. That said, in reality Slaughter Beach is just three nice guys from the middle of the country – Odense to be exact.
We featured them on SoundOfAarhus as part of our WatchOut series a couple of years ago, in 2013, and I still love them and their sound as much as I did back then when I wrote the piece in the middle of the night on exactly the same date as now. Since then, a lot of water has been running under the bridge, and major magazines all over the world have been featuring our Odense-based indie three-piece; including Pigeons & Planes, Noisey, Interview Magazine, JaJaJa, NME, and Clash.
Furthermore, they have released their debut EP ‘Love/Venice’ – A five-track release featuring airy and nostalgic sounds, and an elegant mix of noisy background and elegant guitar.
Personally, It is hard to describe exactly what I like about Slaughter Beach, but I guess it is for a variety of reasons. It is a mix between being a personal fan of the three guys in the band and their sound. Especially their way of showing artistic integrity, the way they don’t give a fuck about outsider’s opinion, and the way they can bring back memories of a time where the future was a long way from the present. At least that was how I felt about the future back then.
Tonight the three-piece will visit Aarhus to perform at Headquarters. In short, a must-see opportunity to experience one of the most promising indie bands on the international blogosphere in real action. As for the support, you can experience a newcomer on the Danish scene called DIET – another project with Hasse Mydtskov (Slaughter Beach & Kissaway Trail) together with founding member Lasse Smed.
Check out Slaughter Beach’s newest ‘ClearInsight’ video, and DIET’s debut single ‘1994’ below. To sum up, I will end with a quote from the WatchOut article published two years ago.
“The music itself is floating between deep bass, noisy background and elegant guitar. The whole package served as something coming out from an old car radio – you gotta love it!”
