That’s right. Perfect score! It’s motherfucking Iggy Pop – and it’s not my fault if you didn’t know his incredible career spanning set. Opening with “No Fun” and “I Wanna Be Your Dog” from his Stooges era, moving on to “Passenger” and “Sister Midnight” from his Berlin/Bowie albums and mixing it up with a more recent song or two. He certainly can move for a man of 69 years on this planet. His body still as spry as it was in the 1960s – but showing naturally his battle scars from many years of taking his shirt off for his adoring crowds. The night was chilly too – so Iggy relented and grabbed a Nike sweatshirt from an audience member – giving us brief respite from what one audience member called “hot dog skin” or “granny shawarma”. The music shined on, though – his incredible band chopped through basically his greatest hits and half of his retirement opus, “Post Pop Depression”
Pop spent a good chunk of his time in the crowd and spitting in peoples faces – he also commanded his band with an iron fist – at one point, knowing their time was dwindling calling out songs: “Wild America – now, now, NOW YOU COCKSUCKING MOTHER FUCKERS” or “Search And Destroy – PLAY it or I’ll FUCKING Kill YOU. And for a moment – he might have even meant it.
With the deaths of so many legends in recent months – I’m now very happy that I got to see Iggy Pop – and it was incredible. Perfect.
With so many legends lost, it's a great relief to witness a living legend delivering the perfect performance. (6/6)
