We’ve been around Lowly quite a bit here at SOA, following them intensely since they first started providing us with explosive indie tunes. I mean, their debut single ’Daydreamers’ was taken up by none other than The Guardian – there would be something wrong with you, if that didn’t interest you when working with the local music scene.
‘Daydreamers’ was followed up by ’Stones In The Water’, my favourite, and ’Forward’. Once again, you could feel the buzz coming from the magazines, blogs and social medias. Concerts outside DK followed next, which were turned into record deals in England and Japan. Now, they’re practically already an established name.
Less than a month ago, they released an EP called ‘Sink Way Into Me’, containing four dreamy tracks with a characteristic Lowly sound. It’s been discussed a lot lately, that too much of the music coming from Denmark these days sound the same. I’m not arguing that, I agree. But Lowly is one of those bands that actually understands to create this “signature” sound. You can hear if it’s a new Lowly song being played on the radio.
The new EP takes you through different sides of Lowly. Especially ‘Fire’, the first track on the EP, has a different vibe; it’s definitely “a Lowly track”, but you get this weird ABBA vibe. And you know what, it really works. ‘S.W.I.M.’ is the next single in line, currently being tested on ‘Barometerlisten’ on national radio station P3. It’s a song you can listen to in all sorts of situations and moods. It is sort of catchy, but you can always dig deeper into the song.
What has been following after ‘Daydreamers’ confirms the idea we had back then, that this band is here to stay. That they are good. And we’ve had the pleasure of getting that confirmed live as well, especially when thinking back on their performance at Newbees Festival in 2014. A lot has happened since then, on their live experience as a band. We’ll always encourage people to go check out Aarhus bands, but there are a few must see acts at the moment; Lowly is definitely one of them.
A packed Radar could very well be the ideal venue to catch Lowly before they take off.
