Forget Closed Groups: Spotify Makes It Possible To Discover With Buddies Via Facebook Messenger
We all know that one situation: friends are chilling in the backyard at one of the buddy’s place before heading to a festival or a gig later that night. Everybody is talking about the band. However, everyone wants to show the other friends that one particular track, which is monumental to grasp the band of the night. Yet, only the guy with the laptop or the connected iPhone is in charge of the music.
Or a road trip in the sun, where only one iPhone is connected with the Bluetooth, car stereo. Everyone wants to hear different tracks from the same artists, or everybody wants to join in on the “Check out this legendary track” discussion, but can’t do it, as the guy in the front seat controls the analog panel discussion as the gatekeeper of good music. Creating a collaborative playlist can be a stressful thing if not a stressful process. Not anymore.
Last night, Spotify introduced group playlists directly in the Facebook Messenger app. It is called Group Playlists For Messenger, and your friends do not even need to be on Spotify to participate. More specifically, you can know just create a group chat, and directly add tracks to your group playlist. Not only will this make it more convenient to overrule the other guys’ shitty taste in music, but it will also be perfect for discovering new artists from Aarhus.
As of today, most of my friends are sharing tracks, bits, and pieces in closed Facebook groups, which can be a hassle, as every link to Spotify will open that (damn) online Spotify version. I hate it. Sorry, Spotify.
Check out how it works in the gif below, and go create that “Roomie Jams”, “Camping”, “Roskilde 2017”, “Tinderbox”, “Road trip”, or “Tracks of the week” playlists. Show the other guys who is really the mastermind of music discovery, and who knows the hidden gems of Aarhus.
Moreover, as a band, think of the possibilities. Imagine, that you create a group chat with the core fans, and let them create the TOP10 of your tracks, or whatever you want. Check it out, play with it, discover with it.
