Exclusive Premiere: Watch The Video For ’Future Me’, The Debut Single From Bad Birthday
Let me introduce you to this new, Aarhus-based outfit called Bad Birthday. Today, the local five-piece and Aarhus native consisting of Jens Mikkel, Frej, Sharon, Michelle, and Mathias is ready to unveil not only their debut single, ‘Future Me’, which we are more than honored to premiere via Sound Of Aarhus, but also the band itself. In addition, the release of the track is accompanied by a video in which you can meet all the band members in the studio during the recording of the new debut single.
Musically, the Aarhus newcomers are inspired by earlier days; a time where funk was clearly at the top of the charts. Driven by a deep bass layer, mixed with light vocals of several singers, the new band manages to create a combined sound, which can best be positioned as a hybrid sound, somewhere in between funk, electronica, and pop music. It’s a melting pot of funkish-pop and electronica, which ends up as pop music. Close tight your headphones, look into the snowy streets, and press play on this beauty, and you have found your way out of this depressing winter.
In the best low-key-DIY-way, Bad Birthday introduce themselves to the world of music with a fresh, yet somehow familiar old-school sound; Like the child of Oh Land and Betty Wright. We love it at the office!
Though the five members are all strong, individual personalities, they have managed to settle down in unity, to utilize the power of multiple perspectives. Initially, the percussionist, Frej, brought the band together, simply because he felt, that something special could happen between them all. That said they had absolutely no expectations of the future sound they wanted to create. Instead, they allowed the musical personalities of the individual members, to form the sound, which led to the volatile sound of this new single, ‘Future Me’ – music, that is both difficult to label with regard to genre label and the perfect context for listening to it. Impulsive brilliance it is.
Listen to and watch ’Future Me’ below. And find them on Facebook.
