We told you this was gonna happen again. And as predicted, the Electric Waves arrangement is back. You might already have noticed from our 5 must-see concerts week 21, that this time, you’ll be able to enjoy a very renown and respected producer and DJ Tomas Barfod and the urban-esque and upcoming Rest in Beats. However, we feel the need to go a little more into depth, about what to expect on this electric Thursday night.
Tomas Barfod is also known as the drummer and producer of WhoMadeWho. He’s been going solo for a while now and with great success of spreading his energetic and delicate house music on a global scale. However, going solo has not always been easy for him.
In 2010, he reached a standstill. He even felt he wasn’t able to make music on his own anymore; he felt he’d forgotten how and even though he tried, none of it was good enough… Until the day, a guy told him that he was starting up a label called Friends of Friends in LA and invited him on board on some projects. Suddenly, the ball was rolling again, the crew and the Label were growing and Tomas became inspired by co-working artists to start producing solo again. This resulted in what was going to be a turning point in Tomas Barfod’s life: His album from 2012 ’Salton Sea’. Ever since then, Thomas Barfod has conquered numerous countries, stages, clubs and the World Wide Web with his melodic and skin piercingly delicate house tunes. And this is in fact what you are guaranteed to experience on Thursday night. We bet he’ll be playing some of his greatest tracks from his 2015 EP ‘Glory’ from which we would recommend the crispy ‘Fill me’ featuring Fine from the Danish band Chinah as a perfect warm up. Listen to it below.
Rest in Beats is the next band on the poster for ‘Electric Waves’. With this lively and upcoming couple from Copenhagen, you are in for a pop/hip hop show with sweet electronic beats and soft vocals that leave you with a light and heart-warming feeling. The duo consists of the exotic and velvet-voiced Rezwan Farmi and the rhythmically scratching Sebastian Rønde Thielke. They’ve actually played in Aarhus before at SPOT Festival in 2015, where they took the stage at SCC, which they rated as ’very unsexy’ and uninviting for close experiences with their audience. This was not their preferred stage setup, as they like to feel their audience to co-create an intimate and present mood. Even though the concert turned out pretty well, their pursuit of creating intimate experiences was even further demonstrated, when they gave a small sunshine session on a tiny apartment balcony as an end to their first SPOT Festival attendance. The session included the song called “New View”, listing a bunch of the things they feel they need. Some things they already have and some things they long badly for.
This live session illustrates the essence of Rest in Beats: A heart-warming, cheerful and very likeable essence. See the live session here:
