FOR FANS OF: Foo Fighters + Soundgarden
A first signal of a great band is that the musicians decide to work out their music as a single-unit rather than as individuals with the well-known lead singer and his companions. Usually such bands end up looking like a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs plot instead of an actual band. The Copenhagen-based rock musicians from H.E.R.O. is not that kind of a band – actually they are more a like the unit from the Justice League plot with their new debut single Superpowers.
All this said I really, really like their sound. It almost sounds like a band that has been touring Denmark several times sound- and melody-wise. It is hardhitting and catchy at the same time – tough yet radio friendly. If you ever had a musical crush on Chris Cornell then you will for sure love these guys. In that case H.E.R.O. would be Chris’ talented little brother. You just know he ends up even better some day in the future!
H.E.R.O wants back their superpowers according to the chorus on this debut single, but what is for sure is that they won’t need any if they keep up creating tracks like this one. Even though this is their debut single they are not rookies at all. Both guitarist Søren Itenov and singer Christoffer Stjerne actually was a part of the weird case in Danish Melodi Grandprix a few years back. Here their band’s track ‘Nowhere’ was disqualified before the actual show due to what mostly seemed like bureaucratic stupidity. It was leaked online before the show and that lead to the disqualification. Søren was also a part of Johnny Deluxe but decided to leave the band in 2010. What about the drummer Anders Kirkegaard you might ask – he has actually been playing drums for a LOT (!) of people through the years. Both including Celina Ree, The Storm and at The Clash tribute concert a few years back at Jazzhouse in Copenhagen. To be short: These guys have both vibes, rhythm and talent running in their veins.
Keep an eye out of for them or follow them on Facebook, cause right now they are working on their Debut EP with forthcoming concerts following too.
